Chemistry with Psychology is a Major-Minor degree programme that leads to either a BSc (3 years) or MSci (4 years) qualification. The Chemistry component comprises 2/3 of the course for the first three years, with the remaining 1/3 being Psychology, taught by staff from the School of Psychology at Birmingham.

In the first two years, students take core modules in Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry, each of which includes associated laboratory courses, where theory is consolidated whilst learning new practical skills and techniques.  ICT skills are also developed from Year 1, with students being given the opportunity to put these into practice through written and oral presentations as the course progresses.  An Introduction to Psychology is given in the first year along with a module in Applied Psychology. In Year 2, students choose from several options that include Developmental, Cognitive and Social Psychology.  In Year 3, core Chemistry lectures are accompanied by a research project, while in Psychology there is again a choice between courses which include Cognitive Perception, Neuroscience, and Social and Developmental Psychology.  Students proceeding on to the four-year MSci programme study just Chemistry in their final year.  They carry out an 80-credit research project and choose from a wide-ranging set of lecture courses, which are pitched at the cutting edge of research and reflect the diverse research interests of staff in the School of Chemistry.
